Hi, old friends! 2025 has felt like a rollercoaster ride for General Hospital fans—you barely have time to process one character’s exit before the next bombshell drops. As someone who’s followed the show for twenty years, I, editor Marie, decided it’s time for a “major roundup” to dig into the real reasons why 11 main actors left. Some left with grace, others like they were kicked out the door. Some swore it was just a “brief break,” but never came back.

Don’t blink—this is a high-density info drop packed with the real tea. Let’s break it down one by one!

1. Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis)
Playing Alexis Davis since 1996, Nancy Lee Grahn has been a core pillar of General Hospital, with a net worth exceeding $3 million. But her 2025 exit was far from graceful. Officially, she left for long-term treatment after a stroke and melanoma diagnosis.

But in truth, that was just the spark.

Before her health crisis, she criticized the handling of the LA wildfires on social media, using sharp language that ABC executives deemed “inappropriate.” She was swiftly fired. What shocked fans even more was her vocal support of Kelly Monaco’s dismissal—calling out the show for “betraying veteran actors.” It came off as a calculated, confrontational “forced retirement.

2. Tajh Bellow (TJ Ashford)
Tajh Bellow saw increased screen time after becoming a contract actor in 2022. So it came as a shock when, in February 2025, he was quietly downgraded to recurring status. No official reason was given, but rumors flew.

Reportedly, he had a heated argument with a veteran actor on set, with tensions escalating to the point of executive involvement.

He hinted at a toxic work environment on Instagram, saying he’d be focusing on other projects—clearly implying no plans to return. With Disney, ABC’s parent company, aggressively slashing budgets, Tajh—though talented—was an easy target. Some fans speculated that his exit may have been a “strategic cut,” despite his role in the show’s diversity efforts.

Marie’s verdict: A young actor squeezed out under pressure—side-lined by power plays.

3. Rena Sofer (Lois Cerullo)
The official line was that Rena Sofer was “taking a break,” but the truth is more nuanced.

Her return was marketed as a nostalgic comeback, but after just a few months of filming, she declined to renew her contract. Around the same time, she quietly remarried her ex-husband and planned to move back to the East Coast, embracing a “semi-retired lifestyle.

” She still appears occasionally in a recurring capacity, which basically means—she’s done with long-term commitments. She’s also exploring external projects, aiming for more flexible, creative roles.

Although there’s no official exit announcement, insiders say her character is being quietly phased out.

Marie’s verdict: Silent on the surface, stormy beneath—her showdown moment just hasn’t come yet.

Cameron Mathison—known for his upbeat roles—may have been written off in 2025, with his character relocating to Washington, D.
