General Hospital continues to get it 100-percent right when it comes to its young sweethearts, Gio and Emma. Their long-awaited first kiss and its awkward aftermath were soap gold. And heaven knows Giovanni Mazza and Braedyn Bruner played the scenes in which Gio told Emma that he was moving out of her grandma’s place with the understated urgency of two kids swept away by the throes of first love. When at last they admitted that they were both into one another… ah! Swoon-worthy.

What’s Next for Gio and Emma?
If Gio decides to stay at Anna’s after all, he and Emma will have to navigate the complexities of being romantically involved under her grandmother’s watchful eye. If instead he goes through with his plan to crash at grandpa Sonny’s, the couple will have to watch their backs every step of the way: As Emma pointed out, being anywhere near the godfather of Port Charles can lead to a very short life!
How Do Gio and Emma Stack Up Against Soaps’ Other Young Lovers?
Any way you slice it, though, Gio and Emma are a gift from the soap gods. Remember back in the day when daytime used to play young love on the regular? Now, Young & Restless has dispatched every character under 30. Bold & Beautiful’s baby-faced Will and Electra have a relationship that’s entirely based on discussing how perfect they are and how awful his rapist Luna is.
Over on Days of Our Lives, the JV set is almost entirely caught up in the drama surrounding Sophia and [Spoiler]’s baby. And while Beyond the Gates writes well for its teens, they are by and large played as B stories… which we guess makes sense since its A stories are as engaging as the push/pull between half sisters Eva and Kat.
