SPOILER ALERT: Ava Jerome may be about to make the one mistake Drew Cain never planned for. She doesn’t need to confess what happened to Jack Brennan, reveal the burial site, or admit that she helped Drew move his body. One small contradiction in front of Lucas Jones could be enough to make him realize that the story Drew told him about that night was never true.
The danger began immediately after Drew and Ava secretly disposed of Brennan. Once they returned to the Metro Court, they needed to look normal. More importantly, they needed an explanation for the time they had spent together. That was when Lucas unknowingly walked straight into their cover story.
Lucas had plans with Ava that night, and Ava failed to show up. When he confronted her about standing him up, Drew quickly stepped in with an explanation. He claimed that he had pulled Ava into a “project,” effectively giving Lucas a reason for why she had disappeared. Ava backed Drew up, even describing whatever they were supposedly working on as a “joint effort.”
At the time, Lucas had absolutely no reason to question them.
That could be about to change.
Ava has remained close enough to Lucas that another conversation between them would hardly seem suspicious. But that familiarity is exactly what could become dangerous. Ava only has to casually describe that night in a way that places her meeting with Drew later than Drew originally claimed.
Lucas would suddenly have two versions of the same night.
The first came directly from Drew: Ava missed her plans with Lucas because she had been occupied helping Drew.
The second would come from Ava herself.
And if those two versions do not match, Lucas could finally realize that the mysterious “project” was never the real reason Ava disappeared.
That is where Brennan changes everything.
Lucas does not need to know where Brennan was buried. He does not need Charlotte’s missing bracelet, Outback’s strange behavior, or physical evidence from the nature preserve. He only needs to remember when this happened.
It was the same night Brennan vanished from the Metro Court.
Suddenly, what once sounded like an innocent explanation becomes something else entirely. Drew wasn’t simply explaining why Ava missed a date. He was potentially filling a hole in her timeline before Lucas had even thought to question it.
And Ava helped him do it.
That could leave Lucas with an explosive realization: Drew and Ava were hiding something they had done together that night.
It still would not tell Lucas the entire truth. He could not immediately know that Drew and Ava moved Brennan from the Metro Court, transported him away from the hotel, and buried him. But Lucas would know something almost as dangerous to them — their original explanation for Ava’s whereabouts cannot be trusted.
Once that happens, the next question practically asks itself.
Where was Ava really supposed to be during those missing hours?
Lucas already knows the answer to part of that question because she was supposed to meet him.
That makes him an unusually dangerous witness. He did not witness Brennan’s death. He did not witness the cover-up. He did not see Drew and Ava at the burial site.
Instead, Lucas witnessed the story they told immediately afterward.
That distinction could become critical as the investigation surrounding Brennan intensifies and Nina finds herself under increasing pressure. Drew has worked hard to push suspicion away from himself, but he cannot erase a conversation Lucas already heard.
There is another reason this seemingly minor detail could become much bigger.
Lucas now shares a home with Detective Joe Fitzpatrick.
GH’s fall preview has also established that Joe will eventually seek Lucas’s input on an investigation, while Lucas continues serving as a sounding board for Ava. That does not confirm Joe’s investigation involves Brennan. But it creates an extraordinary information gap: Lucas could discover that Ava and Drew lied before realizing that the detective living under his own roof might care about what he remembers.
Ava therefore does not need to make a dramatic confession to destroy the protection she and Drew created.
She only needs to forget exactly what Drew told Lucas.
One wrong detail about when she saw Drew, where she was before returning to the Metro Court, or why she missed her plans with Lucas could reopen a conversation everyone else has forgotten.
Everyone except Lucas.
Drew may believe Brennan’s disappearance was protected by missing cameras, planted evidence and a carefully constructed story.
But he overlooked something much simpler.
He told that story to a witness.
And if Ava contradicts him now, Lucas may finally understand that the “project” Drew described was never a project at all.
It was a cover story for the night Brennan disappeared.
