Ric was never simply away on a retreat.
He had been held captive in Alexis’ basement after the explosive fallout involving Kristina, Ava and the car crash that nearly cost Ric and Elizabeth their lives. While Molly was allowed to believe a completely different explanation for her father’s absence, Cody eventually walked into that basement and found Ric restrained there.
That means Cody did not hear the story secondhand. He saw the evidence with his own eyes.
