SPOILER ALERT: General Hospital may have slipped a much bigger message into Molly Lansing-Davis and Cody Bell’s September 15 scenes than their romantic reunion first appeared to reveal.
The obvious moment was the kiss. Molly and Cody finally reconnected after spending time away together, giving fans another sign that GH intends to keep moving this relationship forward. But the kiss may actually be the least interesting part of the sequence. The real clue could be what the writers deliberately placed around Molly and Cody immediately before that romantic payoff.
Their September 15 conversation was surrounded by one unmistakable subject: family. Cody talked about Outback and his growing connection to Serena, while Molly’s attention was on Scout and the damage Drew and Alexis’ battle could cause a child caught between adults. Instead of writing a simple date or flirtation scene, GH put Molly and Cody in a conversation filled with children, siblings, protection and expanding family connections — and then ended it with intimacy.
That choice becomes far more interesting when viewed against Molly’s medical storyline earlier this year.
Back in March, GH deliberately brought Molly’s endometriosis back to the forefront. After a serious flare-up, Molly had an emotional conversation with Cody about what the diagnosis meant for her future. She believed biological children were no longer possible, and she made it clear she was not looking to repeat the painful adoption or surrogacy journey she had already endured.
Cody’s response mattered just as much. He did not need Molly to promise him children. He wanted Molly. That scene effectively established a future in which the couple could choose each other without a biological family ever becoming part of the bargain.
If GH wanted to close the subject permanently, that could have been the end of it.
It wasn’t.
Only weeks later, Molly underwent laparoscopic excision surgery to treat her endometriosis. Cody remained beside her through the procedure and recovery, turning the medical storyline into another important milestone for their relationship. GH then went one step further and actually showed Molly returning for a follow-up appointment, where she received a clean bill of health.
That does not mean GH established that Molly’s fertility had suddenly been restored. The show has not confirmed a pregnancy, and a successful endometriosis procedure should not automatically be interpreted as proof that Molly can now conceive.
But from a storytelling perspective, the order of those scenes is difficult to ignore.
GH first gave Molly the devastating “no children” conversation with Cody. Then it gave her treatment. Then it gave her the positive medical follow-up. The writers subsequently continued building Molly and Cody instead of abandoning the pairing, eventually sending them away together and bringing them back to Port Charles as a couple ready to reconnect.
That brings everything back to September 15.
Cody had already been talking about the unexpected expansion of his own family through Serena. Then, in his scene with Molly, the conversation again moved through family territory while Molly worried about Scout. Only after GH surrounded the couple with all that family and child-related language did Molly and Cody share their kiss.
Was that simply natural dialogue between two characters whose relatives dominate their lives? Absolutely possible.
But soaps often plant future developments long before the audience realizes a scene mattered. The clue does not have to be Molly suddenly feeling sick or staring suspiciously at a calendar. Sometimes the plant is thematic: writers quietly begin putting a subject back into a couple’s dialogue before making that subject part of their story.
And GH has now put family back around Molly and Cody after spending months establishing exactly why having a biological child seemed impossible for them.
That is what makes September 15 different.
A Molly pregnancy would also carry far more emotional weight now than it would have before her relationship with Cody developed. Cody has already chosen a future with Molly knowing that future might never include children. A baby would therefore not be the reason these two stay together. It would arrive after they had already accepted that possibility was gone.
There is also a significant audience history behind this possibility. Fans have discussed a Molly-Cody “miracle baby” since their relationship began getting serious, particularly after GH revived Molly’s endometriosis storyline. The writers now have everything they would need for that story already sitting on screen without inventing a new medical history from nowhere.
No pregnancy has been confirmed. But perhaps that is precisely why September 15 deserves another look.
The kiss was designed to get everyone watching Molly and Cody.
The family conversation immediately surrounding it may have been designed to make sense later.
If GH eventually reveals that the couple who accepted they would never have a biological child are suddenly facing the impossible together, September 15 could become one of those episodes fans rewind and realize the writers had quietly planted the idea in plain sight.
The real question may no longer be why Molly and Cody were talking about family right before that kiss. It may be how long GH intends to wait before revealing why.
