General Hospital may be preparing one of its most heartbreaking goodbyes yet, and the biggest clue could be hiding inside Robert Scorpio’s planned journey home.
Felicia’s revelation that Robert is expected to return to Port Charles initially sounds like wonderful news. Robert is preparing to officially end his tenure as district attorney before he and Holly settle permanently in France. After decades of danger, espionage, separation and impossible missions, it sounds like Robert may finally be getting the peaceful ending he deserves.

But what if Robert’s plane never makes it to Port Charles?
A devastating plane crash could completely change the meaning of Felicia’s announcement. Instead of setting up Robert’s long-awaited reunion with Anna, Mac and the rest of his family, the trip home could become Robert Scorpio’s final journey.
And Holly may be the only one who survives it.
That possibility would give General Hospital a powerful way to close Robert’s story following the real-life passing of Tristan Rogers. Robert remains alive within the GH universe, which means the writers still face the difficult question of how to give such an iconic character a meaningful farewell without simply allowing him to disappear offscreen.
A plane crash could provide that answer.
Imagine Port Charles preparing for Robert’s arrival. Anna knows he is coming. Mac and Felicia expect to see him again. Everything points toward a reunion decades in the making.
Then Holly walks through the door alone.
Robert is nowhere behind her.
Anna would not even need Holly to explain what happened immediately. One look at Holly’s face could tell her everything. The reunion Anna thought she was finally going to receive would suddenly become the goodbye she never got to have.
But Holly may not return empty-handed.
Before that final flight, Robert could have prepared something specifically for Anna — perhaps a letter, a recorded message, an old photograph or another personal object connected to their complicated history.
If Holly survives the crash, she could become the person responsible for delivering Robert’s final words.
And those words could contain one last Scorpio bombshell.
Robert and Anna share decades of history filled with love, betrayal, espionage, sacrifice and secrets. There are countless things Robert could have carried with him for years without ever telling Anna.
Perhaps his final message reveals something about one of their old missions. Perhaps Robert finally explains a decision Anna never completely understood. Or perhaps the truth is far more personal: Robert knew there was a chance this could be his last journey, and he wanted Anna to know exactly what she had meant to him before it was too late.
That would make the plane crash more than simply Robert’s exit.
It would turn his final journey into the beginning of an emotional mystery.
Holly’s survival would be especially important because she would carry both the trauma of losing Robert and the responsibility of completing the mission he could no longer finish himself. She may know exactly what happened aboard that flight — and possibly what Robert was trying to do before everything went wrong.
Robert’s death could also bring the entire Scorpio family back together.
Robin’s return would immediately carry enormous emotional weight. Robert spent much of his life protecting his daughter, losing her, finding her again and fighting to keep his family together. One devastating phone call telling Robin that her father’s plane went down could be enough to bring her back to Port Charles.
Sasha could have an equally emotional role.
Robert discovered only late in his life that Sasha was his daughter, leaving them painfully little time to build the relationship they should have shared years earlier. A memorial could finally place Robin and Sasha together as Robert Scorpio’s two daughters, united by a father whose time with both of them was never long enough.
Mac, Felicia, Anna, Holly and others who shared Robert’s extraordinary history could then gather to remember him, while classic flashbacks allow Tristan Rogers himself to remain at the heart of the tribute.
GH would not need another actor to step into Robert’s place.
Instead, decades of footage could remind viewers exactly who Robert Scorpio was — the spy, the commissioner, the father, the brother, the partner and one of Port Charles’ most enduring legends.
But there could still be one final question hanging over everything.
Was the crash really an accident?
Robert Scorpio spent his life surrounded by dangerous enemies, unfinished missions and secrets powerful people wanted buried. If Robert was carrying something important back to Port Charles, his final flight could eventually become more than a tragedy.
It could become Robert Scorpio’s last mystery.
For now, Port Charles may believe it is preparing to welcome Robert home.
Instead, everyone could soon be staring at an empty doorway as Holly returns alone.
Robert’s plane may never reach Port Charles.
And whatever Holly carries away from that wreckage — especially the final message Robert intended for Anna — could make his last flight one of the most devastating Scorpio stories General Hospital has ever told.
