It’s the moment no one wanted to face. Heartbreak sweeps through Port Charles as the Quartermaines confront an unthinkable loss.
Since Leslie Charleson’s passing earlier this year, viewers have been waiting for General Hospital to honor its longest-running cast member. That moment arrives on the September 17, 2025 episode, when Jason discovers his mother, Monica, has died.

Saying Goodbye to Monica
The day begins like any other at the Quartermaine mansion. Wiley (Viron Weaver) is getting ready for his first day of school. Chase (Josh Swickard) is buried in a case. Cody (Josh Kelly) is up to his usual, harmless mischief. Then comes a knock at the door—and an uneasy welcome for Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), who shows up with Scout (Cosette Abinante).
Willow’s reason for dropping by: she tells everyone Scout wants to keep her annual tradition of getting first-day-of-school well-wishes from Monica. While Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) takes the kids upstairs to see her, Michael (Rory Gibson) and Tracy (Jane Elliot) press Willow about her latest maneuver. Willow even admits that Drew (Cameron Mathison) told her he thinks Michael shot him—and that such an accusation could jeopardize Michael’s custody.

Later, Tracy calls Jason (Steve Burton). She’s seen Michael leaving the crime scene at Drew’s house, and assures Jason she’s handling things. When Tracy suggests Jason should be the one to tell Monica that Drew has been shot, he doesn’t hesitate—he heads straight upstairs to his mother.
Moments later, Jason returns. Through tears, he tells Tracy the words no one was ready to hear: Monica is gone.
